Elaine & Argyros in Soho & Marylebone

AN intimate elopement IN LONDON

Elaine and Argyros’ civil ceremony in London may have been tiny, but we made a full day of it — a small guest count does not have to mean limited coverage.

It was obvious from the beginning that this was going to be A Very Good Day. A European groom in black tie marrying an American bride in a Clio Peppiatt minidress is the sort of thing that makes photographers dizzily happy.

The couple got ready together at Kettner’s in Soho, then hopped in a black cab to Marylebone Town Hall. Once married in front of a handful of friends, they strolled to the fabulously stylish — and wedding-themed — restaurant Carlotta, where the art is vintage Italian wedding photography and Gucci scarves and the dessert is wedding cake.

Every inch of the place is a delight, and the food’s delicious, too. (A post-lunch pilgrimage to the neon-lit Virgin Mary in the mirrored bathroom is a must.)

Then it was back to Kettner’s for a wardrobe change (John Singer Sargent’s Madame X, anyone?) and more portraits, this time including the groom’s vintage Triumph, Astrid. And to end, Elaine and Argyros slipped into something more casual for more adventures with Astrid back in Marylebone.

In short, a dream elopement to photograph. More! More!
