Athinais & Dimitris’ winter wedding

Greek wedding at the Wallace Collection

Athinais and Dimitris are from Greece, so they’ve been to plenty of sun-soaked summer weddings by the sea. But they live in London, so decided to treat their family and friends to something completely different: a mid-winter wedding in the city.

Dimitris began the day at Chiltern Firehouse; Athinais got ready at home with her closest family and all her best girls (including the Greek wedding tradition of writing the single ladies’ names on the soles of her shoes — whoever’s name wears off first is the next in line to get married).

Once the after-dark Greek Orthodox ceremony at the glittering St Sophia’s cathedral was complete, we all skipped off to the Wallace Collection.

The art-adorned cocktail hour was in full swing while the newlyweds slipped away for a private dance in the Great Gallery, overseen by the Laughing Cavalier.

After a pause to admire their favourite Canaletto, then they were dancing again, this time into their supremely elegant reception.
